Madam's penchant for white roses was well known by those who knew him. I brought him so many that his mother, Annie, began to call me by the nickname of White roses. As the Mother of a large gay family, Madam gave advice, comfort and guidence to it's younger members. Madam ventured into the world of drag as Adda Pearl Daily. Adda's first public appearence at the Eagle beer bust was a rocky one indeed. Mr Marcus even referred to her in his next week's column as, That haughty drag queen at last week's beer bust.(Marcus always had a way with words). Madam was, by any definition, a modern day Victorian. Manners and custom were strictly followed. (God help you if you didn't understand the signals sent by the furling or unfuling, flutter or SNAP of his antique hand fan!) Dinner was always by candlelight with wine,(even if the main course was spagetti O's). The family, with Madam as it's center piece, always made a grand entrance to the Imperial Coronations and the Uniform balls. The Christmas party that Madam would host each year, along with the family patriarch, Arthur, was an event not to be missed. We were such spoiled children to have such a wonderful figurehead leading us. The loss is incalculable and irreplaceable.
