Alan was my lover's best friend and business partner, and he was one of my best friends as well. The greatest times of our lives were spent and shared with Alan. When Erik (my partner) met Alan for the first time, he came home to prepare me for the eventual meeting I would have with Alan. Stunning. Witty. Funny. Were some of the words Erik used to describe Alan. And they were all true. His masculine looks were incredible with his salt 'n pepper dark hair and his violet-blue eyes, and the cleft in his square chin. Being with Alan was a laugh-a-minute; he was sharp as a razor blade. When the Dark Times came upon us, Alan lost his lover and partner, John. I moved to England for a while, and we lost contact. But many years later, I made a concerted effort to find Alan. In 1997 at the Castro Street Fair, I staked out a position at the top of the street where Bank of America used to be. I knew Alan would come to an event like this ... and lo and behold, I heard his distinctive laugh, and we were reunited. He died a year later. It was a great shock and a great loss to me, as we had rekindled our relationship. But he had told me some weeks before he left this planet: I'm tired, Dave. Wait up Alan.
