Danny Lord and I worked together at Badlands for many years. Almost always with our bartending stations next to each other. We had a lot of fun working together. We did a road trip to some party event at the original Woods Resort out on Armstrong Woods Road in Guerneville, The River. Maybe it was a Bartenders Bash ? I think so. We shared a room for the time we were there. He was a character and an adventurer and always had some story to tell. 🤣 I miss him. Our battles with AIDS fairly paralleled. He had to quit working a year before I did and a year after I quit and as I was moving to Santa Cruz for my last days, Danny was dying. The month after I moved to Santa Cruz, the FDA approved the first multi drug treatment regimen, the first AIDS cocktail. It was months before my body started responding to the medications. Even then, it would be years more before I accepted the fact that I wasnt going to die after all. At least not as soon as I had figured I would. I got so angry. Danny died that same month the cocktail had been approved by the FDA. If they had done so 6 months earlier or if he had been able to hang on for 6 months more, he might have gotten a chance to live on a little longer, or, as it turned out for me, 28 years longer. The same was true of so many of our friends that would die that year. It was hard to take. All that loss when a life raft was so close. I miss you Danny. Thanks for all the laughs and your tales of wild adventures !!! I finally broke and lost it after we closed one night and you and the other guys let me know that we were all in it together and had each others backs. Troy walked me home that night. I dont know if that was a group decision or if he just took it on himself. I told him it wasnt necessary but he insisted and it was nice not to have to have that walk alone when I was feeling so raw. Just turned 68 and dont imagine itll be too long before I get to join all you lunatics out
