Ted was a member of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus from September, 1980 until January, 1994 for a total of 31 concert seasons. As mentioned in the obituary, he participated in the historic 1981 National Tour of nine cities in the United States. The tour is credited with being the creative force behind the formation of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses which as of 2010 has more than 170 member choruses with over 7,000 singers worldwide. He last sang as a member of the Second Tenor section. The Chorus refers to these members who are no longer able to sing with the group as members of the "Fifth Section." They are listed Chorus programs and on the group's website: https://www.sfgmc.org/about_fifth.shtml
Think of you over this Reunion Weekend
I am 78 years old, and recently joined an elder chorus a the San Francisco Community Music Center. I thought of my singing class there 40 years ago, with Ted as our teacher. He should, in principle, have cancelled the class, as there were only 4 enrollees. But perhaps because there was 1 soprano, 1 alto, a tenor and a bass, he elected to teach--and what a wonderful teacher he was. Just today I found some sheet music that we used in his class. I remember discussing it, and singing it as a 4-part round. I was elated--my first time singing harmony in that way. Thank you, Ted, for enlightening and enabling me. Rest in peace.
