I was Nicholas’s foster son, and I am deeply grateful that this obituary acknowledges that part of his life and of mine. I want to say thank you for the love and care that Nicholas and his partner Alan gave me during that time. It mattered more than I can say. They modeled a healthy, loving gay relationship for me— not perfect, but real, with disagreements, reconciliation, and visible affection. One small memory of Nicholas has stayed with me for decades: the way he answered the phone, “Hello, this is Nicholas,” always sounding genuinely joyful. That joy—and that love— remain with me still.
