LaBombard, Robert J

Robert was volunteering with the San Mateo Buddies program back in the late 80s and he became my Buddy in 1986 here in San Francisco. He gave me a lot of love and support right up to the time of his own sudden death in 1993. I looked forward to our times together.....many memorable afternoons watching football at his house out in the avenues. He remains one of the most generous people I've had the privilege of knowing. His support was one of the reasons I'm still here twenty three years later. If a heaven exists, Robert is there sharing his love, generosity, laughter and fun. He has a very big soul that continues to shine on those of us who knew him. I'll never forget my last visit with him at Davies when he was on a ventilator, which was to be withdrawn later that day. Just as I was preparing to say my final good bye, he rallied into a wakeful state and mouthed the words I love you. Even in his final conscious moments, Robert still expressed his love and that moment has been a wondrous memory and testament of Robert's big soul. Thank you, Robert!
