Don was a sweet man. He was my friend, in the truest sense -- someone who cared about me despite myself. I was an arrogant and preoccupied youngster. He was never put off by my callous disregard. He always showed me love. What a shining example of goodness! Don and I went on a gay cruise together and shared some amazing times. He gave me my first taste of hash brownies and sat with me on the top deck of the ship as I lay there immovable for the entire night. Don read my rune stones and offered me love. Don showed such vulnerability and truth. He knew he had a shorter time on earth than most people. He lived his truth, he was more direct than most, he was a gentle man. He had looked inside and discovered some of Life's secrets that I could only vaguely grasp at the time. I remember his soft brown eyes, crinkling as he smiled; his gentle Texas speech and manner; his soft laughter. He was a good man, and my friend.
