A colleague of mine shared this website with me today. Thinking back to the many colleagues and friends who have fallen to AIDS, I began to search the site. There is one very dear friend whose name came to me immediately! Kim Nelson. Kim had been a close buddy of mine in high school. Some 23 years later...to my absolute delight...I bumped into him at a popular Castro Street restaurant. He was as high spirited, quick thinking, and delightful as he'd been in the old days. Now he was an established, dedicated chiropractor in the City. I'm so grateful we came upon one another...and had chosen to spend a little time together afterward. When I saw his handsome face and name in the Obituary, I was devastated. I still clearly remember this beautiful, kind and loving spirit. You're gone from this world, Kim, but will not be forgotten! Your friend, Diana
Erik and I knew Kim when he was a neighbour of ours on upper 18th Street in Eureka Valley. Kim was an ebullient and fun-loving guy and I never saw him depressed or down. He and Erik became good friends, and the two of them cast a swathe of swoon from their handsome radiance! Kim moved to Castro Street, up near 15th Street, and I remember the last time I saw him was at an Academy Awards party he held there. Erik may have seen him again some time after that. Erik is gone now as well, but I am sure he would have liked me to leave a comment about his good friend and fellow native Bay Arean. Everyone remembers you for your positive outlook and your joyful demeanor, Kim. Your smile lasts forever.
What can I say about Kim Nelson? Kim passed 30 years ago. I knew Kim in LA for 20 years. And I still know Kim. I think about him often. I really have no words except.....I miss you. Truly.
