Evan was a member of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus from April, 1979 until January, 1980 for a total of 4 concert seasons. He last sang as a member of the Baritone section. The Chorus refers to these members who are no longer able to sing with the group as members of the "Fifth Section." They are listed Chorus programs and on the group's website: https://www.sfgmc.org/about_fifth.shtml

I met Evan Friedman at a gay bar in Jackson Heights Queens probably sometime in 1977. If I recall correctly he grew up in Jackson Heights and had come out of the closet right after graduating from high school. I never knew precisely how old he was though I think he would have been around 19 or so at the time my friends and I met him. Like most of my friends in those days I hadn't made my way out of the closet until I was in my mid-20s so we were impressed with him simply for coming out so young. He was cute and friendly and self-possessed in ways we weren't used to seeing among younger gay guys. I took a picture of Evan at New York Pride in 1978, shortly before he moved to San Francisco. At some point a number of years ago I sent the Chorus a copy of that photo which I'm hoping you have in your archives. If not I'm happy to send you another one.
