Richard Hunt was beyond legendary. Stories of his kindness inspire me deeply to be like him. I find it disappointing that his memorial is used to spread that “he didn’t make a point of his sexuality.” Being a performer that worked with children in the 1970s, of course he wasn’t as open about that fact. However it wasn’t a secret. It was known and respected by those that loved him. In fact, there are moments in The Muppet Show where pigs dress like Castro Clones and Fozzie jokes casually about being misinterpreted as gay. I have no doubt he influenced these things and incorporated, at least in some part, his sexuality into the show. Which I find to be amazing. Young, gay, and a puppeteer myself, Richard Hunt means the world to me.
