He was my friend, among the majour thinkers of the Gay Civil Rights Movement in Canada in the 1970s. His courage and commitement bought GATE Vancouver into the Supreme Court of Canada on Oct. 5, 1978 Gay Tide vs the Vancouver Sun. This was the first time in the history of the world's legal systems that such a case of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation had ever been heard at this level. He was from a roman catholic Irish working class family in the bronx who left a huge imprint on the struggle for the legitimacy of same-sex desire. Don Hann, Vancouver Gay Alliance Toward Equality 1971-1980.
