Ash, Ari

I did not know Ari, although I met him once very late in his life through a mutual friend. Ari was close to death at the time. It was difficult for me to see the person that had been described to me in words and pictures. After Ari died, his friends were invited to take some of his many ceramics and other possessions that filled his Noe Valley home. I was invited to take 3 small ceramics which were sitting in his garden, and had been allowed to weather to a beautiful patina. I've never felt that I 'owned' these pieces, just that I am holding them in Ari's memory. Perhaps some day I will have the pleasure of passing these on to someone who knew and loved him while he was living.
