On the website for Moby Dick Records (preserved at Archive.com), Jason Sanders is thanked as The Voice of Reason, alongside folks like Dick Collier (owner of the Trocadero Transfer) and DJ's Roy Thode and Robbie Leslie. This relates to the comments in the Obit about his mixing and playing music and the Troc. Prompting me to write this piece, I randomly bought online a special lavender-colored presentation record of Disc Charge by Boys Town Gang, released and produced by Moby Dick Records, inscribed by Will (perhaps Will Smith, president of Moby Dick Records, or Bill Motley, the producer) on April 10th 1982 to Dick Collier and Jason Sanders, thanking them for their support and love while he was putting out the record. Jason's partner was Nick Giunta (1952-1993), who was, in 1987, manager/ director of the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Band, which still continues today as a major gay community music organization. Nick was also Director of the San Francisco Flag Corps which performed with the band. So both Jason and Nick were highly involved in music. This obit mentions Jason playing music at the Troc, the Trocadero Transfer, which was San Francisco's top (and wildest, most exuberrant) gay dance club of the late 70's/early 80's and there is a wonderful documentary about the club, and its vibrant nightlife community, which for sure included Jason, called Wrecked for Life, made by and currently available for purchase from the artist John Goss. The San Francisco dance music scene, which Jason was a part of, and included Megatone Records (Patrick Cowley, Sylvester, Paul Parker etc) and Moby Dick Records, is now receiving a lot more attention in recent years.

Jason was also very much involved in the San Francisco Gay Leather community, and JD Doyle has commented that he met Jason in 1981 when Jason was a runner-up in a local SF Leather competition (specifically runner-up to the winner, Marty Kiker (bartender at The Arena), who went on to become International Mr. Leather 1981), perhaps the Mr. San Francisco Leather 1981 competition, which was likely held at the leather bar, The Brig (1347 Folsom). I did not know Jason (different generation) but he was definitely very much involved in gay nightlife and community life in San Francisco. This is the record that I found that was inscribed to Jason (and was in the collection of Dick Collier): (Boys Town Gang - Disc Charge), by Moby Dick Records, 1982, Inscription: April 10, 1982, Dick+ Jason, To you both, Thank you!, I couldn't think of two guys in my life, who have contributed so much to my life. For the past few months I've been out of touch in one way, but in another that part of my life each of you has influenced, it is your part in the producing (of) this music, and it's beautiful because, Dick and Jason, you are! Love and thanks, Will (Wilma Hellen), -disc incised by hand on side A: To our Moby Dick - Trocadero Family - We Love You All -Bill (assuming this is Bill Motley), -disc incised by hand on side B: Our music is your love for us, returned with our love for you -Will (assuming this is Will Smith)
