Bill Son was a friend and my mentor in DJ-ing. He provided the best canned music ever for any place in San Francisco during the period he worked for the Ambush (70s - early 80s). He taught me the ropes and allowed me to use his Studio D on Folsom Street near 15th and again when he moved to Fair Oaks Street. Under his tutelage and using his vast library of esoteric music I produced tapes which I sold to other clients and friends. I still have these tapes today, and when I play them on my private DJ setup at home, I am constantly reminded of Bill and his wonderful little dog, Hotdog. Had it not been for Bill I would not have become a DJ myself. Bill was always charming, friendly and a happy guy when I saw him. Many years later, after the devastation of AIDS had set in, I saw him again playing music at Daddy's on Castro Street. Then he was gone. Thanks for the music, Bill. And Hotdog!
