Bob was part one of an iconic duo in San Francisco of The Golden Age. With Tom, they cut a swathe of swoon where ever they went. Erik and I saw them as Olympic gods: unattainable and glittering from the heights--the Castro Heights ... that great LA-ish sprawl of apartments right above the gas station on the north-west side of Market and Castro was their lair, from which they would descend in a massive American convertible automobile with personalised California plates: TOM & BOB. How perfect. But we did eventually have the pleasure to make their acquaintance and forever acknowledged their powerful aura at all encounters. Io Tom & Bob.
