On October 9, 1987, a San Franciscan, Mike Kurtz, died on his 33rd birthday. Kurtz wrote: “AIDS is a marathon and, with diagnosis, you enter the long distance race. When you start you cannot see the finish line, or even around the next bend. At no point do you know if you have enough energy or stamina to finish the race, but you keep going. To drop out of the race is to drop out of the human race, so you keep running,” (taken from his Bay Area Reporter obituary).
From Michael's Chicago Tribune online obituary: In his 16-page pamphlet, ``Encouragement for a Person with AIDS from a Person with AIDS,`` Mr. Murphy wrote: ``We are here to love each other and take care of each other and to work toward that goal. My life accomplishment isn`t any play I ever performed in or apartment building I ever owned. My accomplishment is that I made friends along the way. What makes my life a success is that there have been people in my life whom I have loved and who have loved me.`` In June, 1986, Mr. Murphy and Ronald Bailey started the Marathon project for people with AIDS or AIDS-related complex. It has since been expanded to include people who are HIV-positive, as well as other people who are concerned. The name Marathon comes from a comparison between running a long race and having AIDS.
Do you have anything on my brother Michael Kurtz who died if AIDS
