I knew David through the Harvey Milk Democratic Club. He was an officer of the club, and a gentle man. David's mother, Ruby, who helped David through his illness, died in 2000, at 83 (David was 40 when he died). She is memorialized with her own online obituary.

I met David in 1983 at the Castro Country Club. Even though he was 10 years older than me, I took an immediate shine to this wonderful, smiling man. We were a couple for about a year, and David brought so much to my life. He did not begin showing signs of illness until after we broke up. I still think about him now and then because he had been such a positive influence on me.
