Duncan was a member of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus from April, 1982 until July, 1982 for a total of 2 concert seasons. He last sang as a member of the Second Tenor section. The Chorus refers to these members who are no longer able to sing with the group as members of the "Fifth Section." They are listed Chorus programs and on the group's website: https://www.sfgmc.org/about_fifth.shtml

I am reading his book Candle in the Night, which I have read a few times. I really enjoy Duncan's words and thoughts, and thought I would see if I might find out more about him. Which lead me here. I like to think that he might enjoy knowing his words still are enjoyed these many years after he has transitioned.

I am a member of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. Before every concert, we distribute an envelope containing slips of paper with the names of former members who have passed on, many due to HIV/AIDS (our “Fifth Section”). I recently had the honor of holding Duncan Campbell close to my heart during our spring 2025 concert, “Broadway, Our Way”. I hope he enjoyed being on stage with us as we sang a number of Broadway tunes, including “My Brother Lived in San Francisco”: “Lots of us had brothers there who would love to show the sights / And share the balmy freedom of San Francisco nights / They liked it so much more than where they had been / And we thought they would be there when we made it back again”
