I met Gary when he was living in NYC on 1st Ave and 66th St. when working for American Airlines. He even got me an interview to work for AA...I believe his father was a pilot for the same airline. He was excited that The Wiz was being released in October 1978. He loved dancing at the then Flamingo. He was a great singer and had me come with him to practice at NYC's Gay Men's Chorus which he belonged to. I enjoyed that very much. We loss touch from each other but my memories of him will always be with me . I recently researched people I knew and saw Gary's obituary which saddened me... you always wonder where people are in the world that you had not seen for a while that brought joy to your life... tonight I read more in detail of his passing on June 28th (day before my birthday) 1995. He will always be in a part of my heart. RIP Gary... you had a zeal for life like no other. x Marc (please, feel free to contact me to share any memories and/or information on the whereabouts of friends and family) even if it is many years later. Thank you, Marc.

Gary was a member of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus from June, 1981 until May, 1995 for a total of 39 concert seasons. Gary was always at the forefront of everything the Chorus did. If you were a member during these years it was impossible to not know Gary. He last sang as a member of the Bass section. The Chorus refers to these members who are no longer able to sing with the group as members of the "Fifth Section." They are listed Chorus programs and on the group's website: https://www.sfgmc.org/about_fifth.shtml

Gary was my roomate the last few years of his life. I think that this obit I wrote that appears here says it all except that I can't believe he passed away so long ago now along with so many of my beloved fellow chorines from back then. Bless you Gary. I think of you often and always with a smile and loving remembrance!

I knew Gary because we both served in the 7th Army Soldiers Chorus 1970-71 in Heidelberg Germany. He was always organizing outings with the guys in the chorus. We lost touch when we left the Army, but I saw him again in Minneapolis at a GALA chorus event. I was taking photos outside Orchestra Hall and panned around and there he was in my shot. We had a short reunion on the spot. I give my heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends around the world. Too many lost. Never forget!

I remember meeting Gary in 1978 when he was based out of NYC and lived on 1st Ave and 66th st. He got me to interview with American Airlines in Ft. Worth, TX and invited me to sing in the NYC Gay Men's Chorus. He liked the movie The Wiz and dancing at the Flamingo. His enthusiasm for life and having a good time was unparalleled. Gary, you will always be in my memory.
