Keith Gockel inspired me in every way to become the man that I am. I’m a heterosexual male but lived through the bigoted torment from afar that was unnecessarily unleashed on my mentor and the best doctor that I’ve ever known. I can honestly say unabashedly that I would not be the person that I am today without having known and loved Keith. I went into medicine in part because of his inspiration that you really can be what you want. It takes hard work and confidence but you can. I miss my friend dearly and the world is truly less for not having him here. It really is. |

Today you would be 66, my dear Big Bro. And yes, I still think you're pretty perfect. Wednesday Lunches in Chambana. Priceless. Heaven is a sweeter place. Love you! Deb |

Keith was a member of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus from August, 1990 until February, 1995 for a total of 10 concert seasons. He last sang as a member of the Baritone section. The Chorus refers to these members who are no longer able to sing with the group as members of the "Fifth Section." They are listed Chorus programs and on the group's website: https://www.sfgmc.org/about_fifth.shtml |

What an amazing man -- someone who made such a difference, gone much too soon. He is missed. |

Happy Heavenly 66th Birthday Keith! When I think of you, the memories always put a smile on my face. Your time here was too short, you made our world a better place. And Keith, Deb and I still laugh about coming back over when no one else is home! |

Keith was such an amazing friend with so many special talents! I have many treasured memories of our crazy high school days, but my favorite memory of Keith has and always will be his beautiful voice singing the Lord’s Prayer at my wedding almost 44 years ago! His voice filled the church in such a grand fashion and brought tears to my eyes. He made that day and sooo many other days special for me in our all too short friendship. Miss you so, dear friend, but forever grateful for the good times we shared! |

Happy 66th, my dear Uncle Keith. Though for selfish reasons I wish you were still here, I consider myself fortunate to have gotten to know you during the time that was granted to us. And as I reflect on the childhood memories that I have of our times together, I’ll never forget how kind, thoughtful, and patient you were. While I think of you often, today especially is a day for honoring your memory and celebrating your life. Thank you for your bravery and courage in living an authentic life, despite how difficult it may have been at times. You were and will always be a guiding light for how to live my life. |
