I remember a totally different person. Ray and I were very close friends. Well, at least as close as he would let most people, especially a woman. Mater-of-fact I do believe I was the only woman that I was aware of that he confided in. Working for years with Ray, I leaned he was a deeply troubled person (aren't we all is some way?) and also a very deep and caring person. He loved the elderly and he hated injustice. Sure he didn't always go about it in the right way, but now looking back after all these years, I understand him maybe more than I did then. When a few friends and I went into his apartment after his death, we found under his Bible his memorial that he had already typed (and typed rather badly as was common for him) and stated I had written it. Complete suprise to me. To make all this short, the Gay community has a lot to acknowldge those that came before. Everyone helped bring the community to the place it is now to the point where instead of hiding their sexuality its possible to love in the open. So Ray, wherever you are, I miss you!!!!!!!!!!!! |
